We have an immediate opening for the position of: Health and Safety & Continuous Improvement Coordinator

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Primary function:

This position will be responsible for leading the Health and Safety program and Continuous Improvement (CI) and quality-related initiatives at the Edmonton facility. This includes leading health and safety training, inspections, investigations and hazard reporting and controls activities, including return to work programs and claims management. This role will also be responsible for monitoring, tracking and reporting on aspects of product quality and other improvement activities to drive efficiency and improve day-to-day operations. Working closely with our Plant Manager, this role will help to drive profitability and efficiencies by improving throughput, reducing floor space requirements, labour and material costs. This role will work closely with Production Supervisors, Operators, Suppliers and other members of the organization to improve finished product quality by ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and improving ergonomic issues.

Your Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Health & Safety

Conducting regular workplace inspections to identify, control and eliminate workplace hazards;
Leads internal safety training efforts including new hire orientation, annual certifications (forklift, driver, etc.) and regular safety refreshers to increase awareness and ensure that potential safety issues are addressed;
Chairs the ergonomics committee and leads efforts to implement ergonomic improvements;
Manages Worker’s Compensation claims including the preparation and filing of reports and coordination of return to work programs in conjunction with the operations supervisors and HR;
Manages all activity related to Alberta health and safety inspections, including any site visits and required follow-up actions; and
Reports monthly on safety related KPIs and other metrics;
Continuous Improvement

Works with the Plant Manager and operations leadership to develop and execute an annual plan of continuous improvement events for the plant. This includes setting goals and targets, developing resource plans and measuring and monitoring results to track and report on improvements in a lean manufacturing environment;
Leads random checks, inspections and tear-downs of sub-assemblies and product to ensure compliance with established processes and specifications and general cosmetic requirements, including reporting of outcomes and deficiencies for corrective action;
Generates correction action reports for non-conforming raw materials and purchased finished goods and works with Purchasing to audit income raw materials for compliance with specifications;
Works with Production Supervisors and plant management to identify and correct the root cause of routine manufacturing issues;
Partners with Production Supervisors to provide training to new operators and training to existing operators on new processes, including ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics)
Prepares a monthly quality report for the facility, participates in monthly quality review meetings and suggests corrective actions to address quality issues; and
This role will be responsible for chairing the facility’s ergonomic committee, performing ergonomic task analysis and making recommendations to improve or address ergonomic issues.
Your work background will include:

3-5 years prior experience in a Health and Safety and/or Continuous Improvement, Quality or Engineering role in a just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing environment;
A degree or diploma in Engineering (or Engineering Technician), preferably in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering is an asset;
A CRSP designation and/or health and safety training courses are an asset;
Strong computer skills with an emphasis on advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
Prior experience using Microsft Dynamics in an asset
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to demonstrate adjust delivery based on the audience and their needs.
