To all of our community partners,
On behalf of the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, League of Ukrainian Canadians – Hamilton Branch, and Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada – Hamilton Branch, we would like to express our gratitude to all who have offered kind words, support, and help in the spirit of friendship and community after the news of our devastating fire at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre located at 239 and 241 Kenilworth Avenue North this past Saturday, April 13th.
We especially would like to thank the Hamilton Police, Hamilton Fire Department, and the Ontario Fire Marshall, for their bravery and heroism in responding to the blaze at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre and their continued dedication as the investigation continues.
The Ukrainian Cultural Centre was home for our many organizations, including the League of Ukrainian Canadians – Hamilton Branch and Ukrainian Youth Association – Hamilton Branch which ran many other programs in the last several decades, including the Taras Shevchenko Language School, Kursy Ukrainoznavstva, Svitanok Choir, Barvinok Dance Ensemble.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the greater Ukrainian-Canadian community - including the Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada, League of Ukrainian Canadians, League of Ukrainian Canadian Women, Ukrainian Canadian Congress National, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Hamilton, BCU Financial Group, Ukrainian National Federation, and Ukrainian Credit Union - the global Ukrainian community, our greater Hamilton community, and our many local community partners for your support and words of encouragement.
At this time, we are awaiting a final report from the Ontario Fire Marshall and the Hamilton Fire Department. We cannot provide any further information at this time.
We thank everyone for their support as we plan to rebuild our community and welcome everyone who has any photos, archives, or stories to share them on our CYM Hamilton digital archive group.
