Donbas update: Ukraine reports 1 KIA, 4 WIAs amid 22 enemy attacks in past day
Russia's hybrid military forces mounted 22 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in Donbas in the past 24 hours, with one Ukrainian soldier reported as killed in action (KIA) and another four as wounded in action (WIA). "The situation in the zone of the Joint Forces Operation on June 24 remained under control. In the afternoon, Russian occupation forces intensified fire from large-caliber weapons, prohibited by the Minsk agreements," the press center of Ukraine's Joint Forces Operation said in an update on Facebook as of 07:00 Kyiv time on June 25, 2018. "Fire from a tank and infantry fighting vehicles was also recorded," the report says. "In the Luhansk sector, the fighting continued near the village of Krymske, where the enemy employed 122mm artillery systems, 82mm mortars, grenade launchers and small arms against our positions. The occupiers also fired grenade launchers and heavy machine guns near the villages of Luhanske and Novozvanivka," the press center said.
"In the Donetsk sector, the defenders of the towns of Maryinka and Avdiyivka and the village of Kamianka came under aimed fire." In the Mariupol sector, the situation was most tense in the village of Vodiane, where the Russian-backed mercenaries used cannon artillery systems and 82mm mortars, automatic grenade launchers and small arms against the Ukrainian troops. The Ukrainian positions near the village of Lebedynske were attacked with the use of a tank and 122mm artillery systems. The enemy was also active near the villages of Bohdanivka, Hnutove and Shyrokyne," reads the report.
"Units of the Joint Forces did not allow the enemy to improve tactical position, conducted active defense and gave an adequate rebuff to the enemy," the press center said. "Since the beginning of the day, the enemy has attacked our units three times with the use of small arms near Maryinka, which is in the Donetsk sector, as well as Hnutove and Shyrokyne in the Mariupol sector. "There have been no casualties among our defenders today," the update says.
