Alligator sighting in Brampton pond turns out to be beaver

Reports of an alligator spotted in a Brampton drainage pond turned out to be a beaver.

Peel Regional Police say someone called their non-emergency line around 8:30 p.m. on Friday reporting the reptile was seen in the pond near Creditview and James Potter Rds.

However, after viewing video in the area, animal control services told cops it was actually a beaver.

Initially, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown tweeted to his followers urging them to keep an eye out for the animal.

“Umm…something I thought I would never have to say, #Brampton please keep your eyes peeled for an alligator,” he tweeted.

Another Twitter user, Marlene Raymond, posted: “This is hilarious. Someone mistook a beaver for an alligator.”
