Northern River Karate School training is unique and powerful. Sport is not the focus. The curriculum leads to black belt certification in Uechi Ryu Karate Do, a Chinese/Okinawan system with ancient ties to Crane, Tiger, and Dragon Kung Fu styles. www.threebattles.com
Our instructor, Ken Read, was given his 7th degree black belt ranking and the honorary titles Renshi and Kyoshi by the International Uechi Ryu Karate Test Board in Boston in 2017. In 2009, Ken’s school was honored by the Alberta government for excellence in community programming.
In addition to his Uechi Ryu training, Ken is a dedicated practitioner of Qigong moving meditation and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Ken has given seminars in traditional martial arts and meditative practices for many groups and institutions including Concordia College, Metro Continuing Education, and Grant MacEwan University.
